Anne Matuskowitz was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1981, and was raised outside of Pittsburgh, PA. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with a Visual Arts major in 2003 at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. During the Fall of 2003 she attended the Art Students League of New York to further her education in art. In May of 2004 Anne entered the Graduate School of Biomedical Communications at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, one of the four accredited medical illustration programs in the nation. In December of 2006, she earned her Master of Fine Art degree in Biomedical Communications. Anne currently lives in Dallas, Texas and works as an illustrator for a plastic surgeon and as a freelance artist.

Medical Illustration is a unique combination of art and science. Unlike other fine arts degrees, graduates of an accredited medical illustration program have graduate-level training in various scientific fields including anatomy, cellular biology, and pathology. This additional fund of knowledge provides a smoother transition from the scientific concept to the illustration or other visual media. Medical illustrations teach and explain medical and scientific information that, without the assistance of visual aides, can be difficult to understand.
